In past emails (review email 54) I have suggested that taking the time to gauge the outcomes of our decisions and actions is critical, and necessary if we are to become the CEO of our lives.

We must remember that we often make decisions during times of vulnerability. Decisions followed by repetitive action embeds a belief.

We know that not all beliefs serve us.

Some decisions were made very early in life before we had the capacity to shift and sort information. We are heavily influenced as children to naturally adopt the beliefs of our caregivers. Our little underdeveloped brains had no other alternative.

We may have come to believe, for example:

  •  that the world is a place of scarce resources and that we must always be on guard because it “is a jungle out there.”
  • or we may come to believe that the world is fundamentally benevolent, full of opportunity and that life is intended to be a learning adventure.

As adults, we are prone to focus on evidence that upholds our early belief system. The subconscious mind will naturally delete or distort data that is not congruent with our views of the world, and our views of the self.

Choosing and cementing new beliefs is a highly evolved ability and one that our natural tendencies will rebel against.

This makes conscious, deliberate creative decision making a challenge. Again, incremental small changes allow us to begin to train the mind.

We need to be one step ahead of the subconscious mind.

Again, I encourage you to become more aware about the daily activities you engage in. Look for evidence of those ways of being that have become mindless or automated, and recognize that there is a belief backing this way of being.  Please review past emails if needed.
