This is worth repeating:
- when we develop maladaptive ways of being (cow paths) we are attempting to soothe ourselves.
- maladaptive ways of being become hard-wired through practice or rehearsal.
This is the case whether we believe ourselves to be introverts or
extroverts. This is also the case regardless of the outcomes described
in the remaining three dichotomies listed in the MBTI.
While innate preferences play a role in how we respond, social
programming weights heavily in the equation simply because we are social
creatures. When we are in a state of vulnerability external influence
easily sways us, and much of what has been modelled for us does not
serve our potential.
Therefore, it is crucial that we:
-move out of a slumber like robotic state and become more conscious or aware.
-be one step ahead of the robotic mind, anticipate it, and create incremental steps to redirect it.
If Nancy and Jim fail to do this they will continue to cement ways of
being that widen the GAP between where they are and where they would
prefer to be (review email 8).
