Thinking With the Cow Path Model of Change™
A guided, self-directed audio and workbook experience for building a personal working version of the Cow Path Model of Change™ to think with in ordinary life.

Sometimes we understand a familiar pattern and still find ourselves returning to it.

We may know what we would prefer to do differently and still notice the same reaction, interpretation, habit, or way of responding showing up again.

Insight can matter. But understanding something intellectually does not always stop the pattern from recurring.

This program is designed to help you do more than learn the names and definitions of the six parts. It helps you learn, personalize, and build the complete Cow Path Model of Change™ into a practical framework that becomes familiar enough to come to mind when you are trying to understand a recurring thought, feeling, behaviour, interpretation, or pattern.

You may already have read about the model on this website.

The website provides a foundation for understanding the six parts of the model and how they work together.

This program takes that foundation further through substantial guided teaching across each of the six components and a progressive exploration of the complete framework.

Across the program, you will also personalize the model through workbooks, imagery, drawing, language, and retrieval supports that help the framework become more organized, easier to retrieve, and more available to think with in ordinary life.

A personal working version is not a different Cow Path Model. The six-part structure remains the same.

What becomes personal are the images, language, notes, and retrieval cues that help the framework make sense to you and come to mind more readily.

Across the program, guided audio, participant workbooks, progressive illustrations, personal imagery, cumulative drawing, and brief retrieval language help you move from knowing the parts intellectually toward developing a framework you can think with.

When a familiar reaction, interpretation, or pattern appears in ordinary life, one or more parts of the model may come to mind and give you another way to recognize and understand what is happening.

The Cow Path Model of Change™ was developed and used in my former private practice. One thing I observed was that people sometimes carried its language, metaphors, and ways of understanding familiar patterns beyond the office and into ordinary life. That practical portability is part of what this program is designed to support.

You remain in the decision-making position throughout the experience.

You decide what is relevant, how much you want to write or draw, and whether a question is useful now or better left open.

You do not need to choose one personal pattern and force it through the entire model.

This program is designed for independent use and does not include individualized guidance or discussion of the materials.

The program is a guided, self-directed learning experience. It is not designed to diagnose you, identify one definitive cause for a pattern, reconstruct your personal history, fully resolve one selected issue, or take you through a prescribed change process.

Part 1 — Original Potential

Focus: A wider reference point than established patterns alone

Explore Original Potential as the part of the model that reminds us that deeply established patterns may be influential without being the whole of who we are.

Begin developing your personal working version of the model.

Includes:

  • Audio teaching
  • Transcript
  • Part 1 workbook

Part 2 — Internal Robot

Focus: Automatic patterns and familiar responses

Explore the Internal Robot as the part of the model that automatically repeats what has become familiar without choosing your values or direction.

Continue building and personalizing your working model.

  • Part 2 workbook

Part 3 — Old Cow Paths

Focus: Familiar patterns established through repetition

Explore Old Cow Paths as learned routes that have become familiar over time.

Consider how recognizing a familiar path as a pattern can create a different position from simply treating it as proof of weakness, failure, or fixed identity.

  • Part 3 workbook

Part 4 — New Cow Paths

Focus: Emerging choices, participation, and new direction

Explore how New Cow Paths develop through conscious participation, lived experience, repetition, and return.

Consider what it means for a different direction to feel unfamiliar while it is still becoming established.

  • Part 4 workbook

Part 5 — Filing Cabinet

Focus: Evidence, memory, meaning, and retrieval

Explore the Filing Cabinet as the part of the model that represents stored memories, meanings, evidence, and identity material.

Consider the distinction between what is stored in the wider record and what the Internal Robot retrieves most readily because it is familiar.

  • Part 5 workbook

Part 6 — Future Self

Focus: Emerging direction and evolving identity

Explore Future Self as a developing direction shaped through present participation rather than a perfect destination waiting somewhere ahead.

Complete the six-part personal working version of the model you have been building throughout the program.

Closing Integration — Bringing the Complete Framework Together

Focus: Consolidating the framework you have built

Return to the six parts as one interconnected framework and bring together the personal images, language, notes, and working model you developed across the program.

Complete your one-page Personal CPMC Reference Sheet, then use the participant-led self-check to notice what you understand, what you can retrieve, what feels useful, and what you may want to revisit.
